I am part of a team which handles the University of Exeter’s support for research collaborations, contract research, EU research and the transfer of knowledge between the University and business, including spin-outs, licensing, strategic alliances and economic development – a portfolio worth around £300million. We ensure that initiatives like the UK Research Excellence Framework and other, major institution-wide research developments are well managed.

My team works with educational institutions as well as partners such as Local Authorities and Local Enterprise Partnerships to deliver research and support policy development around skills, employment and economic growth. I provide research support to the team, developing online surveys, sourcing and visualising data and building and maintaining data dashboards. I am responsible for marketing and communications; developing our website, running our news service, social media campaign and customer relations databases.

I am Assistant Editor of the South West Skills Newsletter and have represented Exeter at the European Network for Regional Labour Market Monitoring in Krakow, Poland (2012) and in Bilbao, Spain (2013). I am also our registered Computing Development Officer, overseeing our IT infrastructure and providing specialist software support to the team.

I have been at Exeter for 9 years, having previously worked as a project manager for a private Research & Development consultancy, managing small groups of multi-disciplinary, multi-national researchers in support of large European projects. I was also Managing Director of a company providing guidance on legislation, literature reviews and patent searches in support of EU funded research for four years.

I served in the 4th Battalion of the Devonshire and Dorset Regiment whilst at college, going on to study Biological Sciences at the University of Exeter.
